Slooow and groooovy, part 2!  Continuing on last week's theme of deep grooves that you wouldn't necessarily play out, I delve once more into the slower songs of my collection - and some of my favourites, too!  There's one of the great summertime songs, War's 'All Day Music', some Brazillian songs, a couple of covers (Bobby Humphrey doing 'Ain't No Sunshine', Sergio Mendes doing 'For What It's Worth'), Sly and the Family Stone, David Axelrod... check it out!

Now, I generally try to collect records that I can use to DJ with.  However, in the course of collecting, I've accumulated a bunch of records that are not appropriate to DJ with, because they're too slow, or too mellow, or whatever. My friend Michael suggested to me a little while back that I do a show of these deep & slow grooves - and it's a great idea!  I have enough to do at least two volumes, but here's the first installment - we got some classic names: Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Roberta Flack; some awesome rarities: Lyman Woodard, Placebo; and lots of other stuff.  Sit back, dim the lights, and chill out:

The first Toronto show...!  Things have been a little hectic here at the If It Rotates.. HQ what with the move and my starting a new job and all that, but somehow I found the time to go out and buy two Tito Puente records from the seriously enticing 'Cosmos Records' on Queen West.  I think I'm going to be spending a fair bit of time (and money!) there... anyhow, on with the show: in addition to the Tito Puente, there's a great Brazillian-Latin Soul track by the Brazillian crooner Terry Winter, some funk 45s that have been kicking around, some afro-funk, and one of my favorites: Freedom Road by Chicago's 'The Pharaohs'.  Enjoy!
