Show #20: September 25 - October 1

It's all over the globe for this episode of 'If It Rotates'... the first 6 records are from six different countries!  We got Bulgarian pop, Peruvian grooves, a great Tito Puente song with a sassy little organ, and an Italian cover version of Viva Tirado that came out in Brazil!  Also there's the great groove of the Violinaires 'Groovin with Jesus', Ellen McIlwaine's folk-funk, and a deep deep Brazillian soul tune to finish it off - definitely check out this show!

September 18-24: My People... Hold On

I've gotten pretty far ahead with my partners at Radio Nuclear, so there's no new show for this week.  Sorry to all the loyal listeners out there, I'll be back with all the "hits" next week.

Show #19 - September 11-17

Show #19 is all over the map (in a good way).  I was inspired by both my recent acquisition of Ray Stephen Oche's awesome album 'Interpretations of the Original Rhythm' (great title, too!) and a trip to the awesome Toronto funk party 'Turning Point', at the Gladstone Hotel.  Everything starts off with the funk that you know the show for (including some funky Sesame street), and then we get to the African musicians, British people pretending to be African, Mr. Bongo, more great Brazillian tunes, and lots more.

The Pazant Brothers and the Beaufort Express - A Gritty Nitty
Eddie Bo - Hook and Sling (part 1)
The Poets of Rhythm - Guiding Resolution
The Vibrations - Ain't No Greens In Harlem
Susan from Sesame Street - The ABC Song
Monk Montgomery - Fuselage (part 2)
Mandingo - The Cheetah
Ray Stephen Oche - Okwukwu-Kiwongo
Jack Costanzo - Cumbanchero
Os 5 Sambistas - Poera
Jair Rodrigues - Deixa Isso Pra La

Lonnie Liston Smith - Expansions

Show #18: September 4-10

It's Jesus Week here at the If It Rotates HQ, with a show full of funky religious tunes!  Funk was such a pervasive musical force in the 70s, that even religious folks got hip. The show this week has everything from funky reverends, to gospel disco, to jazz greats, to religious instrumentals (Q: is this even possible?), some Brazillian tunes, and finishes on some great Jamaican gospel.  Feel the spirit, and check it out!
