Show #33: January 22 - 28

Show #33 - Swinging jazz!  How do YOU define funky music?  Is it just the backbeats of James Brown, or is there something more undefinable that makes something funky?  I investigate this phenomenon this week with a look at some songs that are out of the timeframe that people normally consider for "funk music".  Check out Art Blakey's 'Cubano Chant' from 1957, and the awesome 'Boss Tres Bien' by the Quartette Tres Bien from 1964.  We've also got groovy European jazz, and some library tracks, including one of my favorites, 'Misty Canyon' by Sven Libaek.  The whole thing finishes off with some spiritual jazz in commemoration of Alice Coltrane who passed away January 12.

Show #31 - Lots of great international stuff in this show - Egypt's Saleh Regeb, Sweden's Lill Lindfors, a cool Moog cover of 'Venus', Bollywood, Brazillian, Latin, Funky Jazz.... Which brings up an interesting point: With all these international discoveries, have we reached Peak Funk?  The point at which the worlds funk supplies begin to run out?  Off the top of my head  I can think of compilations from Panama, Benin, Belize, etc... is there an end?  How much funky music is out there?   And is it time to stock up on guns and move to the countryside with my funk supply?
