Back from the Middle East

Sorry for the hiatus, I've been away travelling through Turkey, Syria, and Jordan.  Great times.  I didn't really look for records all that much, given how much more there is to do there, but definitely there is some cool music from the area.  This gives me a chance to plug a very cool website - Radio Diffusion - there's entries on excellent music from around the globe, with an emphasis on 60s & 70s tracks.  Check the Turkey entry, and scroll down to 3 Hue El for an awesome track!

And, for your pleasure, another great Turkish track - from the 'Bosporus Bridges' compilation of a few years back, here's Mustafa Kozent - Dolana Dolana!

Slow Update...

Sorry for my slowness in a new update, I've been travelling (what's up, Dallas?) and last night played a big show, and I'm really wallowing in my lazyness today.. I don't usually listen to music after I play out (too loud, really), but the kind of mood I'm in is PERFECT for some Lani Hall.  She was a member of Sergio Mendes Brazil 66, but also had a solo career.  From her LP 'Sundown Lady', here's Love Song.

Are we Back...?

I think the problem might be solved...!  Amazing!  Thank you Patrick, Andre, Teddy, and Columbia (well, not you Teddy, you didn't help).  I'm going to get a new show up ASAP.

 WE'RE BACK!

A new edition to the sidebar

So I got a new show all cooked up, it'll be up shortly.  In the meantime I'd like to introduce a new link in the sidebar to a new blog that I'm all excited about.  It's a new blog by Philadelphia's own Soulman, of his many many mixtapes fame (in which he conclusively proves that he has all the records that I want), and World of Beats fame, and Phill Most Chill fame... looking forward to it:

Last Friday

 Me at the boat

Thanks to all who showed up at the Boat in Kensington last Friday - I had a great time, and hope you did too.   I was going to post a tracklist here, but I counted this morning, and I played 54 songs (!) so that's waaay to many to list!  Again, thanks for all the attendees, it was a great time, and I'm sure there'll be another show soon.  I was too burnt out from playing to make another show today, but I'll put one up soon.

Live in Toronto June 22

Hey what's up - first notice - if you live in Toronto and want to come out and check out the tunes in a dancefloor environment, I'm going to be playing with my pals David Ng and local electro hipsters Young Flux.  Will be a good time for sure.

Friday June 22nd at THE BOAT in Kensington Market (158 Augusta).

Also, a couple of weeks ago, I played a track Ya Ya by Quebec artist Joel Denis.  Well you can imagine I was pleased as punch to find out there's a video of this tune!  It's him, with some listless teenagers! Ha!  (doesn't make the song any less cool though)  Also, listener DC writes to let me know that noted Quebec sex-kitten Mitsou recorded a cover of the tune for an LP... in 1994!  It's remarkably faithful to the original, and you know there's a video.

A little behind this week...

Bear with me, the show will be up when I can find a minute (er... hour) to record the next show... I've got a bunch of interesting stuff pulled from the stacks, I just need to record it.  Thanks for your patience.  In the meantime, go check out Waxing Deep for tons of great shows.

September 18-24: My People... Hold On

I've gotten pretty far ahead with my partners at Radio Nuclear, so there's no new show for this week.  Sorry to all the loyal listeners out there, I'll be back with all the "hits" next week.

If It Rotates is On Holiday!

Hi everybody, there's no new show this week, or next, as I'm taking 2 weeks holiday to go to Sao Paulo, Brazil.  Hopefully I'll bring back lots of great records to play for y'all.

A Radio Show Is Born!

Welcome to the new home of the internet radio show 'If It Rotates, We Can Control It'.  New shows can be heard on Radio Nuclear (www.radionuclear.com), but this is the place to be for tracklistings, commentary, podcasts, and archived shows.

 The radio show times are:

Mondays at 11:00 PM EST

Wednesdays at 10:00 AM EST and

Sundays at 04:00 EST

The first show happened in the week of April 24, 2006, and so hopefully the archive will be up for that soon. I apologize for the generic website look, but I just want to get it up and running before I get fancy.
